Ram Records @Pressure - Review
Still recovering from the 6 night weekend that has my head feeling battered like pancakes - dressed with strawberries, sugar, buttons & chocolate-toffee, of course. Its a lot.
Last Thursday saw me reaching Pressure for the first time since the 10th Anniversary party last year. Andy C's Ram Records nationwide tour arrived at Warwick University to celebrate 15 years as one of the biggest labels in the business. 850 enthusiastic ravers packed out the hallowed Cooler for a memorable night.
Andy C dropped a retrospective set that had heads reeling, sprinting out the blocks with a terrifying onslaught of double drops that began with the 'Screamer' remix. Personal highlight was Ram classic 'Chase Scene' mixed with Chase & Status' 'Dumpling Riddim', followed by Future Prophecies' trembler 'Dreadlock'. Cue carnage. His sets are always great fun to host, partly because playing alongside him is easy work for an MC - no other DJ has the ability to instill such energy and recklessness into a crowd.
Fellow label-mates Shimon and Sparfunk (of Moving Fusion fame) kept it Ram in more ways than one, going back to back for a heavy mix of old and new smashers that kept the gurners grinning. Resident DJ's Baron, Version (premiering a hot new Kardinal Offishall dubplate) and MC Algar, alongside Killa, led the charge for the Pressure crew - smacking it as standard. Overall a great night, pure vibes and a heart-warming throwback to the days of Pressure yonder.
