Hospitality @Heaven - The Report
Well it had been a long wait for one of the most anticipated DnB events in 2005. Hospitality's biggest rinseout was well worth the wait (and the work)! Having dusted 4 coursework deadlines in 2 mash up 40 hour days/ popped down to Islington Academy (Andy C, Randall, Storm for free anyone?)/ blazed a Summer Warm-Up tape with Version/ shopped up Camden/ caned a Chinatown feast, Killa was seriously lagging... but the Hospitality anticipation kept my jokin' and smokin'. Damn queue.
Stepped in to Heaven around midnight in time to catch the end of Nu:Tone's set. Place was sounding crisp and lively already. After a stroll through the venue I found myself in the best Room 3 rinseout I've witnessed in a while (lets face it, Room 3's are typically dry). Logistics absolutely tore down the Weapons of Mass Creation 2 launch with his killer 'The Trip', plus bare dubs from his forthcoming LP. Believe me, judging by dem sounds, Hospital have got yet another huge album on their hands.
Run down to the main room to check the end of London Electricity's DJ set, just in time to catch the one (Influx UK?) tune i wanted to hear that they play at every Hospitality. Touch. And then there was that man DJ Friction. And SP:MC. In Killa's view they blatantly the tightest, ruffest combo in the scene at the moment. Friction moved up several gears 20mins in, with double drops and sick basslines springing up from seemingly nowhere and everywhere at once. Bangin'. 3 Decks? Triple bangin'.
Just when it seemed safe to take a breather, High Contrast dropped Hip Hop! M.O.P.'s Ante Up was cheekily followed by his own fresh remix dubplate. Moments later he came with one of the most sublime tunes I've ever heard, more hot-off-da-press Contrast. Boy was smackin' it. To cap it all, he finished his set with the single tune that I needed to hear that night...Resurrection. Possibly the most beautiful tune I've witnessed and a proper, proper moment. Innit Intermet?!
Andy C came to takeover a rare Hospitality visit and rinsed everything from Uncut's 'Midnight' to his classic Quest, to some raw as f*** freshness. On 3 decks!!! Quality way to cap a quality night (if it weren't for the generous Night Bus scally ;-) ).
Hospitality delivers once again, and gettin' larger too! It was interesting seeing the intimate nite get bigger. Lot more mash heads. I like my Herbal too much, u get me?? Heard a rumour Herbal was gonna buy the 2 adjoining properties and create a 1000 capacity club...intriguing.
